Our Story
Hi! – My name is Tania Montano and I am the founder and creator of TUUKUL. As far back as I can recall, my mind has been that of a creative. From baking to jewelery design to custom handbags, I have always had the desire to bring things to life. Born and raised in Mexico, I grew up surrounded by nature and a culture so rich I continue to learn more about it every day.
I have always been fascinated by the art and creations of Mexican artisans. My admiration for traditional Mexican techniques and craftsmanship grew deeper while studying textile design and has continued throughout my life.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with fashion designers and non-profit organizations that collaborate with Mexican artisans, experiencing firsthand the innate wisdom of artisan communities and their centuries old techniques.
Our name, TUUKUL, roughly translates from the Yucatan Mayan as thought. This word is a concept on its own. A plateau of ideas and beliefs, that can be blended in various ways.
It was a mix of all of these elements that brought TUUKUL to life. Inspired by the infinite beauty of nature, its intricate patterns, and the passion for handmade items. Every design starts with my hand-traced floral patterns which are then adjusted and brought to life by the most talented artisans. Every piece has its own story and each is filled with joy and color.
At TUUKUL we believe that no idea is too small to ignore. Welcome to our community.
