Hi there! My name is Tania Montano, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to TUUKUL, a brand born from a deep love for decor, creativity, and handmade craftsmanship.
Forever captivated by the vibrant culture of my homeland, Mexico, I was lucky to grow up surrounded by rich traditions and the artistry of Mexican artisans. I found myself drawn to the intricate techniques passed down through generations, the wealth of its possibilities, and the stories behind them. As years passed, and my journey into the world of design deepened as I pursued studies in Textile Design, my appreciation for these traditional crafts grew.
After many years of hesitation and doubt I finally stepped out of my comfort zone and launched TUUKUL. Our brand's name, is inspired by the Yucatan Mayan concept for "thought"— it represents a blend of ideas, beliefs, and inspirations that come together to form something truly unique. Every item we make starts with a spark of inspiration—often drawn from the breathtaking patterns found in nature. All patterns are original art pieces I hand-trace and refine in order for them too be brought to life by the skilled hands of talented artisans, mostly female. Each piece is a story in itself, infused with the joy, color, and tradition that define TUUKUL.
So far I’ve found the journey to be incredibly rewarding. One of my main goals is to build horizontal processes and create long-lasting relationships with our makers, empowering them-and myself- through the process.
I want this blog section to give you a glimpse into who we work with, what inspires and fuels my creative process. I’ll be sharing stories about textiles from around the world, insights into various techniques, food, interior design tips, and a range of other topics that spark joy and interest in my life.
